ANTONIN and MILICZ PONDS

We saw plans for a road trip near our home
with some interesting sites so we planned a
preparation day EXCURSION recently.
We traveled north to Olesnica
(there is a castle here and old wall fragments which
we had seen before so no stop here).
Then on to Antonin.
We saw beautiful scenery all the way and in Antonin
was a hunting CASTLE built in the early 1800's
with a small two room museum.
The PLAQUE on the front.
This castle was built for Prince Antoni Radziwill.
The architect designed it in a design of an OCTAGON and
is built of wood. There are three floors.
Elder Moon sits at the piano used by Fredryk Chopin
when he visited here as a young man and wrote music.
Another view of this beautiful piano.

This is the elegant DINING AND VISITING area.
This huge COLUMN is the entire height of the building and
contains two fie places which makes sitting around it
very cozy and comfortable.
Notice the hunting trophies hanging on the column!!
Today this is a hotel and the rooms are only less
than $70.00!! and that includes breakfast.

A statue of Chopin faces the entrance of the castle.
Lovely GARDENS surround the building...
...and there are many walking or biking TRAILS through
the forest that surround the gardens.

Then on down the road...

A typical home stead in this area.
This is a SCHOOL in a small town. There is a larger
building int he back that is brightly painted so I think
it really is the classrooms.
A fountain in a small park in a town.
Looks to be a good hang out for youngsters who
may need cooling off on a warm day.
I liked the looks of this church.
Elder Moon in front of a wooden TOWN HALL in
Sulmierzyce. It is now a museum and was closed today
as is most museums on Mondays!!
This was built about 1743 and notice the columns that
support the shingle roof. The museum contains exhibits
showing the 500 year history of the city.

Glancing around the town square we saw an
interesting site beyond the roof of a nearby house.
A nest with storks. The parent stork was feeding the young ones.
We saw several on this outing.
We also saw many farmers cutting grain in the fields.
This is huge EQUIPMENT.
In Cieszkow we saw a lovely church.
The outside was NOT lovely but the interior
was very peaceful and NOT overly ornate
but such clean and simple lines. In Milicz there were ponds to see.
This is a road going between two ponds and
this is all there is of the road. There was water
on both sides just beyond the trees! On one side of the road.
These FISHING PONDS were built by bishops from
Wroclaw during the middle ages.
The ponds (which are many) cover an area of
about 17, 600 acres.
View on the other side of the "road".
Today these ponds are one of the largest
fish breeding centers in Poland and
also it is a nature reserve for birds.

Traveling the roads here one sees many unusual
or seemingly impossible things.
This is a two way road!!!
Need I say we did NOT try to pass this truck!!
We had a nice day...
and we are ready for another day to contact and
do missionary work!!
