PREPARATION DAY AND CASTLES

One Preparation after laundry and cleaning

we took Sister Sheets and Darota to see some

sites near Wroclaw.

CASTLE IN LEGNISA

This castle is in Legnisa near Wroclaw.

It was first built in 1132 and had such visitors as Henry the Bearded and his wife Jadwiga (you can read about them in another post).

French troops led by Bonaparte stayed here about 1808. This is a view of the lower sections. At times there were prison areas and

other cellars here. The ownership of the castle

changed hands many times ove the years from

Czech, Prussia, Germany, Poland.

Fence surrounding the front area. Side view showing a moat area. Sister Sheets looking for rocks in the moat area. In 1958 there was much renovation to make the building more useful for the needs of the time. In 1995 the facade was changed and up-dated. Today it is a center for culture with pictures and in the basement many rooms for music and art. To the back is a cute church. SANCTUARY FOR THE ILL
This is a building we saw in our ventures. It is

a place that nuns care for the elderly.

How is this for a home for the elderly?

In a small town we came to was this large

building by another "castle".
This castle is now a hotel and restaurant.

It is very pretty and a peaceful secluded area.
The is s type of moat of water aroiund it.
This is the courtyard in the center of the building.

It ws labeled as from the 1200's. This was a well.
Beautiful architecture.
It is spring and we saw the signs of that with the duck.

We saw many paired upo swimming in the moat and

the stream of water running by.

These were especially pretty ducks.

Wow! Look at the color!

This is the bridge leading to the building.

Sister Sheets having a rest in peace.
The surrounding forest area.
Nearby was a street through "town" and we

saw these chickens looking for something to eat.

Rooster or turkey?

One of the homes had a nifty food cellar.
This was a typical scene of in our travels today.

What a great way to spend the afternoon!!

Gotta love it!!
Bigger view of the home.
Another home we passed in the country.
Notice the clothes on the line to the right.

Most of the people in Poland do not have clothes

dryers but this is the best way to dry them anyway! We had a great and interesting day in the countryside

around Wroclaw.
