After visiting Bolkow Zamek we headed to
Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp near Rogoznica.
On the way we saw some interesting sites and buildings.

Very typical Polska building in the rural communities.

We see a lot of this, also.

And this.

driving along we saw this scene on the nearby hill side! What could it be. We stopped and took a picture so we could later find out what it was.Then...

our roadway took it right by the site! A GRANITE QUARRY!! These huge blocks were next to the road, all marked and ready to be moved for cutting and later use!

Down into the quarry! These pictures don't even begin to show how huge the cavity was! Solid granite!!

Straight down and it's all granite!

Carefully look on the levels near the center and
you can see the ladders to enter and leave the quarry bottom!
GROSS-ROSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP:

ENTRANCE MARKER.

A model of the camp in the museum.

Elder Moon at the entrance.
"Work makes you free!"
And work they did! But not for freedom but for death.
German Ground and Stone Works bought the nearby
granite quarry and they had cheap labor to work the
quarry from the camp that was founded three months later.

Barbed wire fence around the camp.

The place of roll-call.

The bell tower. The original bell tower survived
until late in the 1990's then was destroyed and
this replica was built.
There is a bell hanging near the top and this was
rung each morning for wake-up!

Memorial at the end of the camp.

The remains of the Auschwitz area of the camp.
This is the area for prisoners transferred from
Auschwitz Camp.

More of the remains of the Auschwitz area.

Guard tower.

Memorial to the dead of the war.
The darker plaques were with different
languages.

On a little rise were these markers from different
countries as a memorial to those who lived and died here.
Go to the internet and read about this camp.
