LEANING TOWER OF POLAND

We found

FRANKENSTEIN'S LABORATORY

in Zabkowice Slaskie which

town was named Frankenstein from the late

1200's until 1945.

This is closely associated with the literary

figure of Dr. Frankenstein.

There was a great plague epidemic and more than

2000 of the inhabitents died.

The local sexton and their helpers were accused

of murderous activities

and the witch hunts ensued causing

much imaginations in many countries.

Found near the LABORATORY

is the LEANING TOWER.

This is 34 m high and has a vetical departure

of 2.14 m (

The buikding of the tower is not know but some

believe it to be a remnant of a castle.

EXPERTS say it was probably completed in the

early 1400's.

The tower started leaning in 1598 due to

tectonic movements in the area.

Fire burned the city in 1858 and it was

determined that the tower should be taken down.

However, the foundation was found to be secure

and very stable so the towere was saved.

Instead the original metal dome on the top was

replaced with the current brick finished on the straight line.
