CASTLE IN OPOROW

On a recent preparation day we went north to Oporow
to see a castle. It belonged to a Gothic knight and was built
beginning about 1425. It is a valuable monument of medieval fortified
architecture in Poland. It contains furnishings from the
16th to the 19th centuries.
This castle was built on a man-made island surrounded by a moat.
This shows the water in the moat.
(The stagnant water was
covered with green moss when we were there.)
Well on the grounds of the castle the outside of the moat.
A pretty lake on the grounds. I liked this picture!!

Here are pictures of some of the furnishings
inside the castle. I LOVE them!!!!
But not the dusting involved in keeping them clean!!

This is a heater or fireplace. Each of the rooms
had one similar to this. We have seen them a lot
in the buildings we have visited. Made in a variety
of styles they were very popular for
centuries and a pretty way to heat a room.
